Our Founders

Dedication and Faith

Puan Amal Hayati is founded by renowned faith leaders and activists who are pioneers on religion, gender, and human rights. They are renowned for their work, expertise, and dedication to mainstreaming inclusive religious interpretations, as well as toward women rights and empowerment.

Ibu Sinta Wahid

Our founder, Ibu Sinta Wahid, is the former first lady of Indonesia and an important public figure and longtime activist. She has played a significant role in bridging the gap between different religious communities, fostering mutual understanding and respect. Her efforts have contributed to promoting inclusivity, peace, and gender equality in the country.

KH Husein Muhammad

Buya Husein is revered for his dedication to spreading a moderate and inclusive form of Islam, advocating for religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among diverse communities in Indonesia. His work has had a profound impact on shaping religious discourse and women rights. He appeared on "The 500 Most Influential Muslims," published by The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center.

Lies Marcoes

Lies Marcoes is prominent Indonesian Muslim feminist and scholar known for her significant contributions to the fields of gender studies and Islamic feminism. She has been a trailblazer in advocating for women's rights within an Islamic framework with a lasting impact. Her advocacy lead to raise of the legal age to marry to 19 years old in Indonesia.

Musdah Mulia

Prof. Musdah Mulia is a respected Indonesian Islamic scholar and women's rights activist. She is known for her progressive and inclusive interpretation of Islam, advocating for gender equality within the context of Islamic teachings. Musdah Mulia previously served as a senior advisor to the ministry of religious affairs and as a researcher to the Indonesian Ulema Council.

Maria Ulfah Anshor

Maria Ulfah Anshor is an activist with a background in Islamic boarding school education which has led her to become a lecturer, politician and children's and women's activist. Currently serving as commissioner at the National Commission for the Protection of Women (2020-2024) and leading the subcommission for education, legal and policy reform since January 2020.

Attas Hendartini Habsjah

Attas Hendartini Habsjah is a researcher and advocate for sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR). She has been committed to policy-making and advocacy in ensuring that women and marginalized groups have equal access to health care.
